Quartz with a satin nickel faucet. If you want the ultimate modern appearance for your kitchen and you are looking for durability and reliability, you should go for quartz kitchen countertops.

It’s quickly become an important competitor against granite, as a material for kitchen countertops. It’s incontestable resilience, its’ amazing variety of colors and the properties that make it easy to maintain are all in favor of this amazing material.

Today, quartz countertops are made of natural stone and polymer binding resins. The manufacturing process makes this type of countertops very durable, easy to clean and available in a wide range of colors. Moreover, you can choose the way it is cut and the type of edges it has.

The Pros

As for the properties of quartz, you should know that it scores seven on the Mohs Hardness Scale, whereas diamond is a ten. Therefore, it’s highly resistant to scratches and can be immune to a careless slip of the knife. It will also prove resistant to chipping and cracking, which will make it easier to transport and install. However, you should not overdo it, as excessive pressure or force can damage it.

In addition, quartz counters are scorch-resistant. They can tolerate heat without burning or scorching up to a limited temperature. Still, it is recommended that you use trivets or protective pads when you are placing a hot pan, as excessive heat can also be damaging.

This type of countertop is highly stain-proof as well. You need not worry if you spilled some wine, coffee or oil because the nonporous surface will not retain the liquids and you will be able to clean it right away. This provides a real advantage compared to other types of surfaces that need to be sealed regularly.

This texture also makes it very safe, as it is difficult for bacteria and other pathogens to develop. It is the perfect material for moist environments like the kitchen and it will be easier to maintain.

The Cons

The look of quartz is not like that of natural stone like granite. If you’re after the look of natural stone than opt for granite. I think that if you compare granite versus quartz you’ll find that you’ll prefer the latter.

It is available in a variety of colors, patterns and combinations. You are sure to find one that goes with the other elements of your kitchen, whether you want a more serious monochrome appearance or more obvious color combinations. Either way, you will fall in love with the clarity, the depth and the firm feel that it offers.

In short, quartz kitchen countertops are the best solution for a modern, sleek, durable, safe and easy to maintain kitchen.

I had Cambria quartz countertops installed in my kitchen. They are a slate gray color. The color tone is not even, with blotchy spots all over the surface. Is this normal? Caesarstone did not seem to have this problem when I viewed the samples.
